Deck the Calls: An Improvised Phone-in Show with SANTA!
December 3 @ 7:30 pm$7.00
The stars of CBC Radio’s award-winning comedy program The Irrelevant Show are bringing a limited-run holiday show to Spotlight Cabaret.
DECK THE CALLS is an improvised phone-in show in the style of their Fringe hit, Let’s Go to the Phones. (5 stars, “a festival of belly laughs”, Edmonton Journal)
Donovan Workun plays Santa. Peter Brown plays the role of “radio host”, which he calls “the challenge of a lifetime.” Jana O’Connor and Mark Meer play assorted elves, reindeer, Christmas spirits and of course Mrs. Claus. And all of them will take actual calls from the audience.
You can ask Santa if you’re on the naughty list. You can talk to elves about their campaign to unionize. You can ask the other reindeer what it’s like to have Rudolph hog all the attention. You can debate the war on Christmas, real trees or re-gifting. Anything holiday related – or not – is open season.
Incorporating real “calls” from audience members, as well as a rich cast of characters, Deck the Calls promises twists, turns, unexpected connections and hilarious surprises.
“This evening will be a fun and funny ride,” says Brown, “we’ve done this show at Grindstone and the Fringe, and it’s always a blast to let the audience take the wheel and see what our improvisers come up with. I’m especially looking forward to seeing Donovan as Santa.”
